สายน้ำจากเทือกเขาสูงไหลรวมเป็นแม่น้ำไหลผ่านที่ราบลุ่มสู่ท้องทะเลเรือนแพเป็นเรือนไทยอยู่ตามลำน้ำในที่ราบลุ่มแม่น้ำภาคกลางเป็นเรือนทรงไทยมีทั้งเรือนเครื่องผูกและเรือนเครื่องสับส่วนรองรับต้วเรือนเป็นแพลูกบวบทำด้วยลำไม้ไผ่ต้นใหญ่มัดรวมกันปรับระดับแพให้ทรงต้วบนน้ำได้สม่ำเสมอจากนั้นวางคานตีเป็นกรอบรองรับตัวเรือนมีทั้งเรือนเดี่ยวและเรือนแฝดเรือนแพนี้เหมาะสำหรับการใช้ชีวิตกับแม่น้ำที่มีระดับน้ำขึ้นลงแตกต่างกันมากในแต่ละฤดูกาลและการติดต่อกันทางน้ำหรือการเคลื่อนย้ายที่อยู่อาศัยโดยล่องไปตามลำน้ำ
